Why are the two ladies at the front desk so rude and nasty with their demeanor and how they speak!? If every question asked bothers you, find a job where you aren't public facing!!!! You are making US look bad! They were supposed to send my referral to a certain location and when I called those rude ladies back, she was confident she'd sent it to a JAYDA (there is no Jayda at the PT location I attend) and that she called that location herself to get the email address. I called my PT back to confirm there was no Jayda and that she did not receive the referral... While we were talking that's when the rude staff called and asked my PT for their email address and that they were then sending over my referral. Secondly, They were supposed to send a referral for my MRI, those people had not received the referral either. So, who did they send my information to the first time or was a referral ever sent for real Yal too cute to be so STANK acting!!!!!!

I went to so many Doctors before I was recommended to Dr Highsmith by my family DR. I was 36 so it was about 4 years ago. He got straight to the point and let me make the decision if I wanted surgery or not. Everyone else just wanted to give me epidural shots, pain meds or PT. None worked for me. I had my first surgery and was able to walk the same day. Only took 3 weeks off of work. But a few months later my pain came back after I had a fall. I had a second surgery 6 months later to replace my L5 disc since it collapsed.. Dr Highsmith was awesome and absolutely honest with me. It was the best decision I made. But now I see that if you haven’t seen him in 2 years, he’s not taking on any new patients. I hope that’s not true. I just got in a very bad car accident a few days ago and my back had been in pain like it was before my surgery. He’s the only one I trust with my back issues. DO NOT GO TO THE SPINE INSTITUTE! They are FRAUDS. Whether Highsmith can see me or not, he’s still the best! There’s a reason he’s so busy!

I chose Dr. Highsmith for my back surgery for one reason - he is well-known as the TOP neurosurgeon in Charleston among doctors and others in the Charleston medical community. I figured the best way to find out about a doctor's reputation is by asking other doctors, and every doctor I spoke to said (quickly) he is the best in town - hands down. I couldn't have made a better decision - he performed a complicated procedure on me after I suffered years of debilitating back pain that couldn't be fixed by other treatments, and now, my life is completely changed. Unlike other doctors and doctors' offices I've been to, Dr. Highsmith was incredibly generous with his time and listened to every question and concern at every appointment. I NEVER felt like he was in a rush to get to the next patient like most doctors these days who seem to have a stop watch set at 3 1/2 minutes for each patient. That's just one reason why you'd never catch me at any doctor who has to advertise on television to get patients. The office staff was wonderful - friendly, professional and went above and beyond to help fix some issues that came up with my insurance company. At one point I needed to get an appointment with Dr. Highsmith asap because I was about to travel for work and wouldn't be back in Charleston for several weeks - his assistant went out of her way to call me when there was a cancellation so I could see him before leaving town. No other doctor's office would have done this. These folks are the real deal. I've been to more doctors than I care to count in recent years and the staff here are by far the nicest and smartest folks I can ever remember in any doctor's office. I couldn't have been happier with the way I was treated and most importantly - my surgery could not have gone better. Dr. Highsmith's at the top of his profession and is definitely the most skilled neurosurgeon in Charleston - and probably the entire state. That's not just my opinion, but every doctor in town who I asked before my surgery, and I asked a lot before I let someone operate on me. Highsmith changed my entire life and if you have back problems, you know exactly what I mean. Months after surgery I'm almost pain-free and I'm forever grateful for him helping me through a very difficult time for me and my family. If I could give more than 5 stars he'd get 500.

I wouldn't normally go out of my way to review here but I now feel the need. Earlier today I called for medical records and spoke with Anna. She didn't take down any info besides my email and quickly got me off the phone after telling me they would send my MRI scan to me. I decided to call back 30 minutes after they were back from lunch since I realized she didn't really get enough info from me and I still hadn't received an email (I'm in Peru with the Peace Corps and it's an emergent situation). After calling several times only to get her voicemail I decided to talk to Mallory (she is the reason I didn't just give them one star). She was kind and helpful. Also let me know that Anna was only working a half day today and there was no way they could send me my scans since they don't hold on to images. So in conclusion, Anna blatantly LIED TO A PATIENT. Clearly her leaving for a half day was more important than helping a patient. I will be sure not to go here again once I return to the US.

Dr Highsmith is a 10 star doctor and I amjust upset after calling his office for an appointment .Dr Highsmith has done 4 surgeries on me and I trust him wholeheartedly. Thats why this is so hard. The receptionist told me that the doctor is now in Private Practice and does not accept any insurance . She said a visit could run anywhere between 400.00 to 1800.00. I was left on hold and then told the system wouldn’t let her schedule any appointments and she would call me back. That was hours ago. There’s no way I can afford to go back anyway. I was going to try to get the money together, but I just can’t. I guess I’ll try to get an appointment with one of the doctors in his old practice. It sounds like Dr Highsmith will be catering to a clientele that doesn’t include me. Very disappointed.

Dr. Highsmith is a wonderful surgeon and has a great bedside manner.
He operated on my lumbar spine and relieved the sciatic pain in my left leg.
I had only Medicare and Medicaid at the time but I was told he no longer accepts insurance and is now self pay only, I’m sorry this happened because I won’t have access to his services anymore.

I had been sent from Dr to Dr to Dr ,mak mak appointments to make appointments. I made 1 appointment saw Dr. Highsmith and date time ECT was set for my Spinal Cord Implant update, the other Drs wanted more tests and more money out if my pocket when all the information was there that was needed. Had my upgrade and follow up and done. It is now 3 years later, March 2019 and I'm having other back pain issues, Started very end of 2018 and saw 1 St Dr Jan 3 2019 here we are at March 01 and nitnoth had been done but appointments to make appointments, so I called Dr Highsmith and see him in 15 days, no BS no running around from an appointment to another. I live in Columbia SC and worth the drive to see him.

Dr. Highsmith is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. I believe he has a great bedside manner. He is professional and still has a way of putting you at ease. When my original "diagnosis" came back different he did more. At the hospital, when he sent me back to the X-Ray department they said that they were running tests that they rarely ran & to please bare w/ them, that alone shows he went above & beyond...because he didn't give up or try to pawn me off to another doctor... he keep looking. I would recommend Dr. Highsmith to family, friends, and strangers.
